Charles W. Scharf is chief executive officer and president, and a member of the Board of Directors of Wells Fargo & Company.
A financial services veteran with 24 years of experience in leadership roles in the banking and payments industries, Charlie served as chief executive officer of Bank of New York Mellon from July 2017 to October 2019 and the chairman of its board from January 2018 to October 2018. He also was chief executive officer and a director of Visa Inc. from November 2012 to December 2016.
During his tenure at Bank of New York Mellon, Charlie demonstrated a strong track record in initiating and leading change, driving results, strengthening operational risk and compliance, and innovating amid a rapidly evolving digital landscape.
As the CEO of Visa, Charlie transformed the firm into a technology-driven digital commerce company by partnering with the world's leading technology companies to drive new payment experiences and introduce new technologies to improve payment system security.
Previously, he was a managing director of One Equity Partners at JPMorgan Chase & Co. and chief executive officer of Retail Financial Services at JPMorgan Chase. He also was chief executive officer of the retail division of Bank One Corp., chief financial officer of Bank One Corp., chief financial officer of the Global Corporate and Investment Bank division of Citigroup, and chief financial officer of Salomon Smith Barney and its predecessor company.
Charlie earned a Bachelor of Arts degree from Johns Hopkins University and an MBA from New York University.
He is a director of Microsoft Corporation, serves on the board of trustees of Johns Hopkins University, is a member of The Business Council, and is chairman of the New York City Ballet. He lives in New York City.

Indra K. Nooyi has joined the Board of Directors at Amazon since February 2019. Mrs. Nooyi was the Chief Executive Officer of PepsiCo, Inc., a multinational food, snack, and beverage company, from October 2006 to October 2018, where she also served as the Chairman of its board of directors from May 2007 to February 2019. She was elected to PepsiCo’s board of directors and became its President and Chief Financial Officer in 2001, and held leadership roles in finance, corporate strategy and development, and strategic planning after joining PepsiCo in 1994. Mrs. Nooyi served as a director of Schlumberger Limited from April 2015 to April 2020.

Previously, Swami worked as a General Manager of Amazon AI and leading all AI (and machine learning) initiatives within AWS. Examples of some of the Amazon AI services I manage include Lex, Polly, and Rekognition (in addition to AML). Prior to this, he was the GM for NoSQL Database services and Analytics in Amazon Web Services where he builds large scale cloud computing platforms and also manages different groups within AWS Database services. He also managed the Amazon DynamoDB, Elasticache, and bunch of other (yet to be launched) NoSQL/Big data initiatives.
Swami has built several large scale systems in the past. Some of the well known ones (that is externally visible) include Amazon Dynamo, Amazon CloudFront, Amazon RDS, Amazon QuickSight, and Amazon SNS Mobile Push. He has also built other large scale systems that is used for building Amazon service infrastructure including its core distributed lock service infrastructure. He is also one of the main authors of Amazon Dynamo paper (along with Werner Vogels) that was published in SOSP 2007 and became the foundation of several other NoSQL stores.
Swami obtained his Ph.D. from Vrije Universiteit, Amsterdam from the Computer Systems Group headed by Andrew S. Tanenbaum and Maarten van Steen. Swami has authored more than 40 refereed journals and conference papers. He also holds more than 120 patents and has more than 20 pending patent applications.
He also serves in program committees of different ACM/USENIX/IEEE conferences, and also as guest editors for different IEEE/ACM magazines.
